Functional Yoga Training
Functional Yoga through a Yin Yoga lens: 10 Hour YTT
Why do two students with equal flexibility look completely different in a yoga pose? Why do some people's heels lift off the floor in a yoga squat? What is the role of skeletal variation in the ability to get into a pose? How do you know which poses a student should avoid?
This informative and illuminating workshop explores a functional approach to yoga through a Yin Yoga lens. Based on the teachings of renowned Yin Yoga teacher, Paul Grilley, this 10 hour training will help you to understand what it means to take a functional approach to yoga. You will be better equipped to choose the right pose – for you or your students – to achieve a desired effect, regardless of body type, shape or size.
WHO IS THIS FOR?
This is for you if you:
-
Have a felt sense of certain poses being uncomfortable or difficult for your body, but don't understand why
-
Understand that there are differences in body types and range of movement but are not sure how to tailor your teaching accordingly
-
Don’t know when to encourage a student to go further and when to back off
-
Feel confident in your understanding of muscles but not the skeleton

Currently plan your Yin classes by choosing random poses and holding them for long periods

Are starved for face to face learning and an opportunity to connect with your peers!
COURSE OUTCOMES

-
Be able to help your students access the desired effect in any given target area, regardless of their range of movement
-
Have greater confidence in your ability to offer modifications and alternatives to suit different body types
-
Have a framework for developing safe, effective – and addictive! - Yin Yoga sequences for your classes

Sequencing considerations for Yin Yoga
“Many 200 hour YTT courses equip us with an in-depth understanding of the muscles, but very little time is spent on the huge range of variation found in the skeleton. The knowledge I gained from studying with Paul Grilley has had a profound impact on both my teaching and my own practice”.
This workshop is suitable for both Yoga Teachers and any student interested in a deeper understanding of how their own bodies inform the best way to practice for them.
